And, before I go into details, I'm going to place the blame for this obsession on a dear friend -- my high school friend Susan (well, and a bit to my good friend, Jessica, as well). Susan got married, hmmm let's see, six years ago I believe. When I went to purchase her shower gift, I was horrified to find that she had registered for Fiestaware. Well, I was not horrified with the Fiestaware itself, but the fact that she had registered for one set of every color. "What was she thinking?", I said to myself, "that is going to be hideous!" So, I purchase her a set (a cobalt set, I do believe) and shrug my shoulders, "whatever she wants, its her house". Fast forward a bit to a baby shower being hosted at Jessica's house (a co-worker at Battelle and a good friend). As we're standing in the kitchen, prepping for the party, she opens her cupboard only to reveal a vast and colorful Fiestaware collection. My reaction was not one of horror, but one of pure delight. It was so colorful and fun. I fell in love instantly. And, of course, each time I've been in Susan's home since, I have been attracted her colorful collection of dishes. And, of course, I've been wanting my own set.
Now, I have my own full set of nice stoneware that we received as wedding gifts. I keep reminding myself of this - I do not need dishes. But after 5+ years of wishing for my own collection, I caved. I bought 4 pieces on Friday, though I was totally irritated to discover that the platter I purchased was warped and needs to be returned. Pretty aren't they?

I have no intentions of getting rid of my other dishes, partly because it will take me a long time to collect a full set of the Fiestaware and partly because the dishes were wedding gifts and I can't bring myself to part with them.
I'm fortunate that my husband, though he doesn't understand why I want new dishes, is just happy to make me happy. I'm a lucky gal!
Six years ago today as a matter of fact! Congratulations on your first pieces of Fiestaware! My first piece was a pink pie plate and a set of salt and pepper shakers that Beau got me for my birthday when we were engaged. I was (at the time) a little disappointed because all of the gifts from him had been pretty and sparkly up to that point. Beau likes to point out that now I am very pleased with gifts of Fiestaware. You will have to check out the factory where they are made. They have an outlet store as well as a seconds room - pallets full of colorful dishes!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the colorful bowls from my mothers cupboard that I always liked. Leah and have a set although the name escapes me.
ReplyDeleteMy bad, Susan!!! Happy Anniversary! Talk about timing my post right. :-)
ReplyDeletehilarious!
ReplyDeletethus far I've managed to push my desires for fun fiestaware down...it's so fun and festive!
I have vowed that when Leah is finally old enough to not regularly drop plates, I'm getting a set.
ReplyDeletePS - There is an outlet in Logan!
